2015 European waterway cruise - Belgium - Ghent
 |
Inner canals of Ghent |
The town of Ghent is well worth a visit.
As it was way off our planned route through Belgium, we made a day trip there by train.
 |
Buildings of Ghent |
Time was limited so we did the tourist thing and took the guided boat trip through the inner canals and had all the interesting buildings and sights pointed out.
 |
Cuberdons |
We tasted a lesser known Belgian delicacy - the cuberdon - extremely sweet - in the shape of a nose!
Surprisingly, it was here in Ghent we found a vegan restaurant, and tried their vegan burgers for lunch.
 |
Castle in Ghent |
I had always thought Ghent was a small place, but it is actually the second largest town in Belgium after Brussels.
Although a big city, the centre is very pretty with the usual ancient buildings but is very touristy.
Next - on towards Liege.
